Licensure and Accreditation
Beth Tfiloh Camps is licensed and regulated by the Baltimore County Department of Health. We are also fully certified under the Maryland Youth Camp Safety Law by the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In addition, Beth Tfiloh Camps is proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association, the national organization of camp professionals. The ACA's main focus is program quality as well as the health and safety of campers and staff. The ACA insignia is your assurance that standards that are far more rigorous than the Health Department's regulations are being met.
Staff
Beth Tfiloh's superior staff includes over 200 educators and other professionals, counselors and instructional aides from dozens of different colleges and high schools. Our one-to-four ratio enables us to provide campers with both personal attention and quality instruction. The professionals that fill the camp's key supervisory and administrative positions average nearly 50 years of age and have hundreds of years of Beth Tfiloh camp experience among them - an average of more than a dozen years each. Most of our dedicated staff members return year after year, many for a dozen years or more, to help our campers grow and cultivate the Beth Tfiloh spirit.
Perhaps the single most significant factor that differentiates Beth Tfiloh Camps from other programs is its unique staffing pattern. Most camping programs employ counselors who double as instructors, or instructors who also serve as counselors. The Beth Tfiloh Camps model has two completely separate and highly qualified groups of staff members. One group serves as permanent counselors, remaining with their bunk throughout the entire day to monitor the group interactions, provide emotional support to the children, and serve as an anchor for the day's activities. These counselors are experienced teachers and college students with training in education, recreation, psychology or social work. The other group delivers the program content, in art, sports, swimming, etc. These highly skilled individuals are professionals in their subject fields, certified by either the State Department of Education or a nationally recognized organization such as the Red Cross. In this way we can offer expert programming in each activity area, while maintaining close supervision and continuity to the children in our care.
Safety and Security
Because the safety of your child is always paramount, dozens of our counselors and instructors are trained in First Aid and/or CPR, including special skills for Infant and Child levels. Our Health Center is staffed by 2 full-time Registered Nurses with extensive training and experience in providing care for youngsters. To help ensure the safety of each child, the background of every employee of Beth Tfiloh Camps is checked by the Maryland State Police and the F.B.I. There are always staff on duty to monitor the security of our entrance. Our camp has a close working relationship with the public safety services in our area to assure their familiarity with our special needs. We provide a supervised bus ride in vehicles that can communicate with both the bus company and the camp. Campers are never beyond the direct supervision of our trained staff.
