Frequently Asked Swim Questions
Beth Tfiloh Camps provides an extensive aquatics program each summer to our campers. Our full-day campers receive two full periods of swimming each day, one for recreational swimming and the other for instructional swimming. Our youngest campers in Kinder Camp enjoy a single period of swimming each day divided between recreational and instructional.

Many parents are often interested in how we conduct our swim programs. For instructional swimming, each camper is placed in a swim level based on ability demonstrated at the start of camp. Daily small group instruction by trained staff follows the Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum. Campers receive certificates of achievement and Red Cross certification cards when they have learned all of the required skills. Our unique pod pool with its graduated entrance ramp lets beginning swimmers ease into the water. Children with more advanced ability enjoy our 25 meter and lap pools.

Returning campers will begin by being placed in the same groupings that they ended with the following summer. Kinder Camp and Aleph campers will be grouped by bunks during their instructional swim period.

Campers will be tested on their swim level on a rolling basis based on the swim instructor's recommendation as they evaluate a camper's progression through the required swim skills. After these campers are identified by their swim instructor they will then be tested by the Aquatics Director.

All information on the Red Cross requirements to pass each swim level are available by selecting the appropriate level under the "Swim Information" menu on the home page of the Electronic Newsletter. All campers will receive a progress report during week 3 and 6. The Red Cross Swim Cards are only awarded when all required portions of the level are completed. These cards are completed by the WSI and are sent home with the camper.

As we receive questions, we will add them to this FAQ. Check back often as there might be information here you didn't even think to ask!
